Byfield National Park APR 22

Byfield National Park APR 22

Trip Leader Charlene Brown

We will be departing Brisbane at 5am from the Coles express service station northbound at Wildhorse mountain on Good Friday and will head north for the 8hr drive to Byfield National Park. We will be stopping on our way for rest, fuel and toilet stops along the way.

We will be camping in the Byfield State Forest at Water Park Creek, camping is limited and as this trip is being held in a peak holiday period we suggest you book your accommodation before registering to attend the trip to ensure you don't miss out. Accommodation booking must be made online via QPWS online booking system https://qpws.usedirect.com/QPWS/Default.aspx

On arrival at the Water Park Creek camping area we will be setting up and resting for the remainer of the day and having an early night to recover from the long drive.

Saturday and Sunday we plan to travel to travel around the Byfield National Park, Conservation Park and the Byfield State Forest. There will be 2 tracks that we plan to drive which QPWS have listed on the area map plan that are difficult (big sandy and track up to Five Rocks Beach https://parks.des.qld.gov.au/__data/assets/pdf_file/0032/157847/byfield-area-map.pdf The local 4WD club in the area has advised the track isn't technically difficult but does require correct low tyre pressures (12psi) and good momentum as the sand is generally very soft, powery and dry. One day we will travel to Stockyard Point track and nine mile beach, we will stop at Stockyard Point headland for some photo opportunity of Five Rocks and Nine Mile Beaches hopefully find waterfall creek, maybe orange bowl for those keen to walk in and just enjoy the day on the beach. On the second day we plan to head back down the Stockyard track but travel up to Five Rocks beach and then travel the Death Valley Track at the end of the day.

On the Monday we will pack up and head back to Brisbane. Those who wish to extend their trip will continue on the continuing link trip being held travelling between Byfield and Kilkivan on stage 1 of the great 2022 tour.
